The weather was perfect––no rain, mostly sunny, approximately 70 degrees. In June the woods are very green and there is a lot of poison ivy, so the courses tended to use trails and the control flags were hung high. Thirty-one controls were given points ranging from 2 to 5, for a maximum total of 94 points. Starters were encouraged to use up to 90 minutes without time penalty, with a penalty of 1 point for each minute over 90. A map-measured best course was about 8.2 km. Maps were preprinted with 31 controls marked on the maps. A 1.6 km White course was also available.
