Meet Director: Lew Kidder
“I survived
a Lew Kidder green course”, Jude Halloran allowed to no one in particular. “The only thing that kept me going was the
secondary clue for the 10th control. It said ‘unusual vegetation’; I expected giant pink mushrooms or
something equally spectacular.” The
truth turned out to be something more literary than pharmaceutical, however –
honeysuckle vines which had completely engulfed several medium-sized trees,
creating a garden straight out of a Faulkner novella.
The 62-person turnout was relatively modest, given the spectacular weather. The yellow course attracted the largest crowd – 20 – with the green just a single warm body behind. All of the loops ran clockwise, with the start and finish at the public access site on the west shore of Crooked Lake. Mary Jocelyn and Catherine Roberts showed up early to handle registration for the meet director. After getting everyone signed in, the two then found enough time and energy to finish third on the 2.5K yellow course.
